Visit from Animasia

After 2 years of hearing that South Africa is a cool place, Animasia’s management team headed to Cape Town to see if the rumours were true. ah loong, Edmund Chan and Raye Lee went on a whirlwind (wind being the operative word) tour of the city during their 4 day visit. Winelands, Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain… and of course pool at the Shack!

Here they are relaxing at their apartment overlooking the Waterfront (L-R: Edmund, ah loong and Raye).

Was great to have you guys in SA. Look forward to having you back for the world cup!

PS: Thanks for being polite about Mrs. Ball’s chutney!

Global Round-up

As Supa Strikas travel the globe on their soccer adventures, Chevron and Strika teams are on the move too. It’s been a time of outreach and on-ground activations in our territories around the world…

Claudia and Benson, from the Supa Strikas Extra Time team in Kenya, recently visited the Our Kid football club. The club has over 150 members aged 7 to 17, mostly underprivileged kids from the Kibera region. And they were all psyched to catch up the latest adventures of Shakes and the gang.

Meanwhile, across the globe in Malaysia, students gathered to show off their skills at Caltex-Supa Strikas Freestyle Fever. This inaugural event formed part of the grand finals of the Kosmo Varsity Futsal League… and was attended by none other than world-renowned freestyler Abbas Farid.

And while Malaysia crowned its freestyle champion, members of the Chevron and Strika teams banded together to open a soup kitchen in Du Noon. Clair and Bobby from Strika’s Cape Town office helped send supplies to the informal settlement outside Cape Town, which included Supa Strikas gear for the local kids.

VOTING TIME!

We need your help deciding on the top animation shot and background from episodes 14-20.

The artists at Animasia in Malaysia will be awarded a classic South African gift – so choose wisely!

We have a compilation of hit shots for animation and characterisation, and a separate vid for our best backgrounds. So we need two votes from all of you; one for best animated shot, and one for best background.

Please remember that Strikaland is a democracy, and thus it is your responsibility and duty to make your mark and have your say. Go forth and email your votes (i.e. the number on the top left) to bestshots@strika.com. Alternatively, submit via piece of paper to Lucy.

Voting closes Friday morning.

Thank you citizens!

*1st vid is animation shots, 2nd is backgrounds

WHO IS JANNIE REUVERS?

For most of us here at Strika, Jannie is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Why? Because he uses words like ‘figures’ – and not just when he’s talking about ladies.

Jannie was kind enough to grant me a short interview, describing his job as a “fascinating romp into the elusive world of digits, decimals and denominators.” Then he stood up and yelled, “Mathematics! The single truth!”

After that, he told me he was very busy and shooed me out of his office, refusing to answer any more questions. This cool guy is standing in for Ingrid while she’s on maternity leave. Welcome Jannie!
