The Supa Strikas animation kick-off

At 5pm on Friday 7 November, the Strika team gathered around the TV to watch the first episode of the Supa Strikas animation series. Champagne glasses were raised as a toast was made to the company’s latest milestone. And then we watched as the characters we know and love sprang to life in the story of how Cool Joe got his groove back.

A new episode screens every Friday at 5pm on SABC2, with repeats on Sundays at 11:30am from 7 December.

Strikas in sub-zero

The Worldwide Magazine Marketplace (WMM) is the only event of its kind in the world. Clair and Rudi headed for Moscow to represent the Strika team, and their colourful stand drew plenty of interest. Discussions included new licensing markets for Supa Strikas, Cuju and Carousel in Europe. Rudi and Clair were glad they packed their winter woolies because the mercury dropped below zero… and it wasn’t even winter yet!

Carnival, Nigerian-style

Supa Strikas has a strong fan base in Nigeria, and the comic recently made an appearance at the 4th Annual Lagos Comic and Cartoons Carnival. This year’s event was themed “Youth and the Creative Revolution”, and had the Nigerian Supa Strikas team sharing the stage with graffiti artists, comic book creators and loyal fans.

Show and Tell Time

After more than a year of intensive production, Greg Tarlton and his team are gearing up for what he calls “show and tell time”. The first episode of the Supa Strikas animation series will be broadcast this Friday at 5pm on SABC 2. For the team at Strika and their counterparts at Animasia in Kuala Lumpur, bringing 13 comic stories to the screen has been a challenging journey. And when the opening credits roll in a couple of days’ time, South Africa will finally see the fruits of their labour. Not that Greg will be ready to breathe out just yet… he’s saving that for the closing credits.

Here Clinton, Kofi, Thorbjorn, Debby, Greg and Gareth take a moment’s break…
